Development of a 3D Display

In this project, I have built a three-dimensional persistence of vision display. Unlike most 3D displays (like television or cinema screens), it’s a volumetric display, which means that it actually displays
depth instead of merely providing an illusion of it. It also means that the display can be viewed from any direction.
It works by rotating an arrangement of LEDs very quickly. A microcontroller controls them such that they light up the same way every time they pass the same point again. This happens so fast that the human eye doesn’t see quick bursts of light, but a steadily lit pixel. Even though there are only 160 LEDs, the display can show 16’000 pixels because it uses a single LED to light up 100 pixel in quick
succession over and over again.
