Antimicrobial bacteriophage dressing in chronic wound treatment

Irreparable effects on health, even death cases, caused by chronic wounds, are due to the deficiency of antimicrobials against pathogenic biofilm producing bacteria, coupled with the sunset of the antibiotics era. We have developed a new, highly efficient method for producing the antimicrobial wound dressing. Our method easily allows to modify antimicrobial components of the dressing and ensures their gradual release. The antimicrobial effect was evaluated by fluorescence and electron microscopy methods as well as microbiological assays. The decrease by more than 300 times of the biofilm-producing multi-species bacteria in chronic wounds was achieved. Our method is cheap, easily personalized, and capable of reducing morbidity and mortality, caused by chronic wounds on the global scale.
