The Hitchhiker’s Guide to measuring investor reactions
In this thesis I present the idea to use the so-called log-periodic power law (LPPL) to identify the influence of larger exogenous shocks on investor behaviour during antibubbles. I apply this methodology to look at the influence of bank rescues after the 2007 financial crisis. The results I obtain are consistent for the same kinds of bank rescues and can …

Framtida översvämningsscenarier i Falun
The last couple of years we have seen an increase in the amount of flooding and many of these occur because our climate is changing. This project has the purpose of developing a method for visualizing and calculating the effects of flooding. The method is then applied to the town Falun in Sweden. It is useful to be able to …
Dried Blood Spots – A Preferred Sample Type for Blood Biomarkers
Blood samples have always been frozen and in liquid form in modern medicine. But now, our new study challenges conventional thoughts regarding blood-storage by showing an alternative sample type; dried blood spots. The dried blood spots shows greatly increased analytic capabilities, as well as major economic benefits because of the easier storage method. It’s highly possible that the dried samples …
APPLICATION OF NYLON THREAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ARTIFICIAL MUSCLES
In this project we want to study the behaviour that a nylon thread has when, coiled in helical shape, acts like an artificial muscle. We have been able to produce them and we have taken data related with the contraction that they suffer when they are heated with a nicrom resistor. As results, we obtained that their efficiency is really …
PROPOSAL OF A STANDARD TO MEASURE ECOSYSTEMS’ FUNCTIONALITY THROUGH ORGANIC MATERIAL DECOMPOSITION SPEED
This project pretends to establish a pattern to measure the degree of functionality marine ecosystems through the study of the decomposition rate of organic materials. It was realized in two areas of the estuary of Vigo (Toralla and Bouzas areas, Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain) using bread, apple and green and brown seaweeds (to study their behaviour) and whose parameter we define …
A STUDY OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN A MAGNETIC FIELD AND ELECTROLYTIC IONS
My aim with this Project was to get experimental data with very basic material and techniques, and giving a more complex theoretical approach within this data. The experiments were ran with simple-high-school-material, and were recorded with a Smartphone. Later and with a video-analysis software I modelized and got data from those videos, doing a statistical study with which I did …
Agricultural application of halobacteria and their compatible solutes in enhancing plant salinity endurance
Halobacteria were tested as solutions for increasing agricultural productivity in high salinity soils. Halotolerants produce osmoprotectants, such as ectoine and betaine, which can be applied to plants to enhance their salinity endurance. Sixteen halotolerant bacteria were isolated from six coastal areas in South Korea. After optimizing culture conditions, lettuce was grown for three weeks with a treatment divided into four …
